Saudi Arabia’s Cloud Kitchen Sector Booms with Tech, Talent, and Global Partnerships

Saudi Arabia's Cloud Kitchen Sector Booms

Saudi Arabia’s cloud kitchen industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation — fuelled by cutting-edge technology, strategic international partnerships, and a fast-shifting consumer appetite for convenience and innovation. As digital food delivery becomes a cultural mainstay across the Kingdom, cloud kitchens are no longer just an operational solution — they’re a strategic growth engine aligned with Saudi’s Vision 2030 and its diversification ambitions.

AI-Driven Kitchens: Where Robotics Meets Shawarma

In a bold leap toward the future of food production, Saudi Excellence Co. has partnered with US-based Nala Robotics to launch the Kingdom’s first AI-powered robotic cloud kitchen. This isn’t just a commercial kitchen; it’s a research and development hub aiming to reengineer the way traditional Middle Eastern food is prepared.

Robotic arms are being deployed to automate the production of local favourites like shawarma and falafel, ensuring not just consistency and hygiene, but also unlocking new standards for efficiency at scale.

Beyond the food itself, the project will soon expand to include an AI robotics training centre and a regional sales and marketing office-positioning Saudi Arabia as both a tech innovator and a talent hub in the culinary automation space.

Turning Hotel Kitchens Into Scalable Delivery Hubs

Matbakhi, a Riyadh-based food tech startup, is reimagining how existing hospitality infrastructure can be transformed into productive digital assets. Instead of investing in costly new kitchen builds, the company is repurposing underused hotel kitchens as high-performance cloud kitchen facilities.

The model is elegant in its efficiency: hotels monetise dormant assets, while chefs gain access to ready-to-operate culinary spaces and distribution networks. Matbakhi’s approach injects creativity, diversity, and local talent into the delivery ecosystem — enabling boutique chefs and homegrown brands to thrive in the digital food economy.

It’s a rare intersection of hospitality innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, making the most of existing real estate while supporting a new generation of culinary operators.

Global Players Double Down on Saudi Expansion

The sector’s momentum hasn’t gone unnoticed. Global cloud kitchen giants are racing to secure their slice of the Kingdom’s market — with localisation strategies tailored to Saudi tastes and long-term investment plans.

  • Rebel Foods, the Indian unicorn behind brands like Faasos and Behrouz Biryani, has launched its first two cloud kitchens in Riyadh and plans to scale to 60 units in one year. The ambition? A $100 million food delivery empire in Saudi Arabia alone, within three years.

  • Kaykroo, based in the UAE, is mirroring this playbook. It recently opened its first kitchen in Riyadh, with 15 more planned within 18 months. Kaykroo is also investing in an innovation centre dedicated to local menu development, with the goal of serving 1 million meals and creating 500+ jobs.

These expansions demonstrate that Saudi Arabia is not just open for business — it’s becoming a proving ground for global cloud kitchen scale-ups, blending international efficiency with regional flavour.

Sector Outlook: Smart Growth with Strategic Alignment

According to Research & Markets, Saudi Arabia’s cloud kitchen industry is set to more than double in value — from $157 million in 2020 to $335.7 million by 2030, with a CAGR of 7.7%. That growth is underpinned by macro trends: urbanisation, a digitally native youth population, and a rising demand for hyper-convenient, customisable food experiences.

The model also aligns seamlessly with Vision 2030’s core pillars-non-oil diversification, tech-driven development, infrastructure utilisation, and tourism growth. As the Kingdom continues to attract both global brands and local innovators, cloud kitchens are increasingly playing a triple role: driving private sector innovation, enhancing consumer access, and creating high-tech, high-skill employment opportunities.

Saudi Arabia isn’t just participating in the cloud kitchen revolution — it’s positioning itself as one of the leaders shaping what’s next.
